Charleston, West Virginia, June, 2009—Fruth Pharmacy stores, once again, show their support for the March of Dimes as they participate in raising funds during the 2009 March for Babies season. “Fruth Pharmacy has always been a huge supporter of the March of Dimes…their commitment never fails us” says Terry Eller, Community Director for the March of Dimes. “As always, their tremendous team effort and support are greatly appreciated”.
Fruth Pharmacy produced a candy bar that illustrated the Fruth and March of Dimes relationship directly on the wrapper. Each store sold the candy bars and raised $1000 during their March for Babies campaign. “Candy bars are still available at some locations” said Terri Thomas, Fruth Pharmacy’s Director of Marketing.
March for Babies (formerly Walk America) is the March of Dime’s larger fundraising event since it’s inception in 1970. “Raising funds for this March of Dimes event is a wonderful way to promote teamwork among participants in any business or organization,” says Eller. Go to www.marchforbabies.com to find a March for Babies event near you. “In fact, Huntington’s March for Babies event is scheduled for this Fall (September 12th) at Ritter Park,” Eller shares.
The March of Dimes leads the fight against the more than half a million premature births that occur in this country every year as well as other serious threats to infant health. Preterm births are the number one killer among newborns. In fact, some babies are born so small their medical conditions can cause severe mental and physical problems, and even death. With current newborn testing, such conditions can be diagnosed early, while most can be successfully treated to prevent or lessen the severe consequences. The March of Dimes funds cutting- edge research and innovative programs that help more babies come into the world healthy.
The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to give all babies a healthy start.
