Point Pleasant, W.Va. (October 9, 2014) – On Thursday, October 9th at the Trinity Christian Community Center in Point Pleasant, WV, Fruth Pharmacy held its 24th Annual Service Awards.

Awards are given each year in the following categories: Manager of The Year, Pharmacist of the Year, Pharmacy Technician of the Year, and Associate of the Year. This year a new honor was introduced – “The Jack E. Fruth Lifetime Achievement Award.” Employees are also awarded for their years of service to Fruth: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, & 30 year employees are recognized at this time.

Nominees are submitted to Fruth Pharmacy by the employee’s superiors, co-workers, customers, and more. Employees and customers are encouraged to nominate and vote through an online process. Out of nearly 700 employees, only 13 are chosen for special honors. Being a nominee is an extreme honor.

“Today is all about you, our team of loyal and dedicated employees who make up the over 700 hearts that comprise our Fruth Pharmacy Family,” Lynne Fruth, President of Fruth Pharmacy stated as she opened the ceremony.

Nominees for Manager of the Year include: Tim Halfhill, Manager of Fruth Pharmacy in Point Pleasant, Denise Hatfield, Manager of Fruth Pharmacy on Oakwood Road in Charleston, and John Williams, Manager of Fruth Pharmacy in Gallipolis on Second Ave. Denise Hatfield was awarded 2014 Manager of the Year.

Nominees for Pharmacist of the Year include: Logan Yoho, Pharmacist at Fruth Pharmacy in Pomeroy, OH, Rachel Quivey, Pharmacist for Fruth Pharmacy in Athens, OH, and Aaron Beighle, Pharmacist for Fruth Pharmacy in Spencer, WV. Rachel Quivey was awarded 2014 Pharmacist of the Year.

Nominees for Pharmacy Technician of the Year include: Nancy Kearns, Pomeroy, OH, Becki Woodward, Mineral Wells, WV, and Linda Webster, Spencer, WV. Becki Woodward was awarded 2014 Pharmacy Technician of the Year.

Nominees for Associate of the Year include: Margie Cartwright, Pomeroy, OH, Barbara Luikart, Eleanor, WV, and Janet Adkins, Cross Lanes, WV. Janet Adkins was awarded 2014 Associate of the Year.

“The challenge to be excellent goes beyond just providing a high level of customer service and friendliness. It includes supporting the new initiatives being rolled out at Fruth Pharmacy,” Fruth stated about this year’s nominees.

Fruth continued by discussing the new initiatives in store this year at Fruth Pharmacy:

“Our entire group of staff pharmacists have become immunization certified and have helped us expand the number of immunizations from 600 flu shots a year to over 6000. Our pharmacists have actively worked to make sure our seniors are protected against the painful disease of shingles. Others have responded to new clinical and counseling opportunities with a spirit of excitement and desire to improve outcomes for their patients. They are truly making a difference in the day to day health and well being of our patients.

Another success story in the making is the Fruth Mobile App and texting program. Using a simple enrollment procedure patients now receive a text to let them know when the pharmacist has completed their prescription. No more calls to the store to ask, “is my prescription ready?” or wasted trips or long waits at the store. This application allows us to streamline the patient experience and provide better care; it also provides refill reminders to help drive medication adherence.

In other areas of the store, we have started to promote our Gopher services providing additional items for delivery with a prescription. This will help patients who are homebound. Our total staff will have to work together to promote and execute this program.

There will be other initiatives and opportunities at the store level that promise to help Fruth be successful into the future. Central fill will provide the opportunity to free up Pharmacist time at the store level and will enable our staff to meet the growing clinical needs of our patients. Central Fill will also help usher in medication synchronization, which allows a customer to get all their prescriptions filled on the same day.”

At the end of the ceremony, the first winner of ‘The Jack E. Fruth Lifetime Achievement Award’ was announced to be Sandy Robinson, Director of Store Operations. Robinson began her career with Fruth Pharmacy in 1984. She opened and managed several of the Fruth stores during expansion periods. Several employees spoke about Robinson during the ceremony:

“As women in a man’s world, we went to the same training seminars, classes, and conferences. Do you remember [addressing Sandy] when we both realized that we needed to extend our hands for a shake when we were meeting anyone in the business world? You took it a step further with your infamous hugs,” Barbara Taylor, Category Manager recalled.

“Her positive attitude and upbeat personality is contagious,” Fruth added.

Robinson was honored by more stories from managers she helped to train and a special video. Her husband Russell stood by her as she accepted the award. Daughter Angie was unable to attend but sent the following statement to be read during the ceremony:

“Mom, I wish I could be there to see you accept this award. I am so proud and thankful that you are my mom! The Fruth family and employees have always been like family to us! Congratulations! I love you!”
