Fruth Scholarship Fund

Fruth Pharmacy is the proud sponsor of an endowed scholarship for the College of Pharmacy at Ohio State University. This scholarship provides funding for students in the OSU College of Pharmacy with preference given to young men and women from Southeastern Ohio. Each year, there is a luncheon where featured scholarship sponsors speak about their scholarship and several students who speak about the impact the pharmacy scholarship has had on their life.

Lynne Fruth, President of Fruth Pharmacy, was this year’s featured speaker talking about the Jack E. and Frances “Babs” Fruth.  She was accompanied by her mother, Frances Fruth, and her aunt, Winnie Strathern.  Both Frances and Winnie were raised in a small town in Ohio. In the short talk, Lynne presented vintage photos of her parents on the OSU campus. Both Jack Fruth and Frances Rhodes Fruth were graduates of Ohio State, which is where they met and fell in love. They were happily married for over 50 years before Mr. Fruth’s passing in 2005. “It was very important for my mother and father to establish a scholarship at Ohio State University. It’s where he got his pharmacy degree and has always had a special place in our family and business history,” said Lynne Fruth.

One of the  Fruth scholarship recipients, Sara Doviack, spoke about what it meant to receive the Fruth Scholarship. Sara grew up in Gallipolis, Ohio, where Fruth Pharmacy was always known as a small business with a reputation of integrity and generosity. She was very honored to be the recipient of the scholarship. Sara was accompanied by her father, Dr. Paul Doviak, who is a professor at Rio Grande University.  The other Fruth scholar for this year was Jessica Boyles.

The luncheon was attended by all scholarship winners and scholarship benefactors. Ohio State University holds this reception once a year to allow scholarship recipients and their sponsors to meet and connect. It is an important part of the College of Pharmacy’s mission to educate Alumni about the impact and importance these scholarships have on the young men and women who attend Ohio State.
