Lynne Fruth Guest Speaker for WVU B&E Speaker Series
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (January 31, 2013) – Lynne Fruth, President and Chairman of the Board for Fruth Pharmacy, was invited to be a guest speaker for West Virginia University’s Business & Economics Distinguished Speaker Series.
Fruth graduated Magna Cum Laude from West Virginia University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Fruth was also a member of the WVU Women’s Softball team. She received her Master’s degree from Marshall University in 1995.
Fruth, the youngest daughter of Fruth Pharmacy Founder, Jack E. Fruth, grew up in the family business. Before taking the reins at Fruth Pharmacy, Fruth was an instructor in both the public and private sectors. She also served as an educational diagnostician and field researcher for the federal government. Fruth had a consulting practice in 1994 and worked extensively throughout West Virginia providing consulting for troubled school districts and their academic programs. West Virginia adopted one of Fruth’s program ideas and put it in place statewide.
In 2012, she was inducted into Marshall College of Business Hall of Fame where she joined father, Jack Fruth and became the first Father-Daughter inductees in the Hall of Fame.
Fruth spoke to the audience attending her lecture about the hurdles that Fruth Pharmacy has faced. Between fires and floods, and the passing of founder Jack E. Fruth, Fruth Pharmacy has had many ups and downs during its 60 years of existence.
Fruth’s lecture contained many personal family photos as well as historic photos of Fruth Pharmacy through the years.
Some Fruth Wisdom was also shared with the audience:
“Nobody ever got ahead working 40 hours a week.”
“Always do the right thing, no matter the cost.”
“The harder I work, the luckier I get.”
“When you’re in over your head, it doesn’t matter how deep the water is.”
“Don’t be afraid to ask questions, or say ‘will you explain that to me?’”
When speaking about the restructuring of Fruth Pharmacy, after her father had passed away, Fruth had a phrase she liked to quote to motivate the staff when difficult decisions had to be made, “We can either do this,
or we can all get together once a month at Village Pizza
and talk about how great it was when we all had a job at Fruth Pharmacy.”
In recent years, Fruth Pharmacy has seen positive growth under the leadership of Lynne Fruth. Two new stores have been established in Ironton, OH. All pharmacies recently have undergone a technology upgrade, and soon a new app will be available for customers to order and manage their prescriptions.
Fruth Pharmacy has served customers for over 60 years in both Ohio and West Virginia. Fruth Pharmacy has 27 store locations and is a full service pharmacy. Fruth offers immunizations, prescription savings club, loyalty rewards club, and free local prescription delivery. You can learn more about Fruth Pharmacy at www.fruthpharmacy.com.
